The Cres - Losinj archipelago consists of 36 islands, islets and reefs in the Kvarner Gulf. In terms of surface area, it is the largest group of islands in the Adriatic. The archipelago lies in the middle of the northern hemisphere.
A special feature is numerous animal and plant species and dense pine forests. The archipelago partially intersects 450 north latitude, so that the greater area of the archipelago is located in the subtropical zone of the southern half of the northern hemisphere. All this affects the climate and the way of life. The coast of the archipelago has many attractive bays and inlets that are pleasant for sunbathing and swimming. The highest hill on the island of Cres is Sis (650 meters). Cres has a unique natural phenomenon, which is the freshwater Vrana Lake. Such a large amount of drinking water on a karst island represents a huge wealth. The island of Cres is the longest Croatian island, with a length of 65.5 kilometers. The island of Cres is an unsubmerged natural extension of the Ucka mountain ridge. Its height gradually decreases from Tramuntana to the south. In the middle of the Tramuntana area, the northern part of the island, which extends from Cape Jablanac and the 45th parallel, this ridge is most obvious. In the central part of Cres, there is a plateau about 200 to 300 meters above sea level.
There is a wonderful viewpoint in the area of the 45th parallel. It is nicely arranged and includes a small parking lot, a table and a bench so that the visitor can enjoy undisturbed views of the Adriatic Sea and the island of Krk in the distance.
