Mali Losinj is located in Augusta Bay, which is the largest closed bay of this archipelago. The city is the cultural and administrative center of the island. The main economic activity is tourism, as the place was already known as a climatic health resort in the last century.
The predecessor of the current name Malo Selo appeared in written sources for the first time in 1398. At that time, the inhabitants were mostly engaged in animal husbandry and agriculture. After many centuries of hard life, the city experienced its greatest prosperity in the 19th century. The development of shipbuilding mainly contributed to this. Losinj sailors at that time had stronger ships than cities like Trieste, Rijeka and even Venice. Due to the shipbuilding activity, the place began to develop rapidly and soon became the center of the island of Losinj. Today, Mali Losinj is known for its fresh air, clean sea, beautiful bays, beaches, promenades and local cuisine. The marina in Mali Losinj offers a picturesque view of Augusta Bay and the old town.
