Primosten is a small settlement and harbor located south of Sibenik. It is one of the popular tourist destinations that attracts many domestic and foreign visitors in the summer. It is the center of the municipality of Primosten, which belongs to Sibenik-Knin county.
The place is located on a small peninsula between the bays of Primosten and Raduca. It is connected to the mainland by a narrow embankment. It is surrounded by crystal clear sea. The town is characterized by its well-preserved medieval Mediterranean architecture, narrow streets and ramshackle stone houses. The place was created in the 16th century, during the period of Turkish invasions. At that time, the locals built a wooden bridge, which they raised in case of danger. The settlement was also protected from invasions by walls and defensive towers, which were demolished in the 19th century. The biggest local attraction is the church of St. George, which is located on a hill at the top of the old town and was built in 1485. Other attractions include Rudin Square of Bishop Josip Arneric, the Church of St. Rocco, the statue of Ivo Saric, chapels, the city park, the fisherman's monument and the donkey monument. A promenade leads around the peninsula, inviting for romantic evening walks. The Church of St. Rocco was built in 1680 and dedicated to St. Rocco, the protector against the plague and other diseases that were spreading throughout Europe at that time. In front of the stone church stands the statue of Ivo Saric (1915-1944), who tried to protect the local population from the atrocities of both the Italian and German occupiers during the Second World War. In the bays of Mala Raduca, Vela, Peles and Primosten, there are well-kept pebbly beaches and crystal clear sea. The most popular beaches are Velika Raduca (tennis, canoes, volleyball, mini golf), Mala Raduca (outdoor massage, trampoline) and Punta Raduca (diving, water sports).
The place is also characterized by a rich gastronomic offer that satisfies even the most demanding guests. Among the top wines is Primosten Babic, which originates from the vineyards of Jesenovik, Kremik, Trovrh, Bucavac, Strana and the vineyards of Primosten.
