Mali Losinj is the most developed tourist center on the island of Losinj, mainly because of the wonderful beauty of the closed bay, which is the largest in Kvarner. The first island settlements date back to the Neolithic period.
The place flourished economically only in the 19th century, which was contributed to by the development of shipbuilding. Today, Mali Losinj is the cultural and administrative center of the island. The largest city attractions are the parish church of the Birth of Mary, the church of St. Martin, church of St. Nicholas from 1875, the Ambroz Haracic High School, the Fritzy gallery and the fish market in the center of the city. The high school was built in 1975 in the shape of a ship with a command bridge, where knowledge of navigation, dating back to the year 1804, is still being transmitted. The Fritzy Gallery houses an art collection of Croatian and foreign European artists. Locals gather in the fish market in the morning and it offers the fresh catch of fishermen. The parish church of the Birth of Mary is located in the center of Mali Losinj. The cathedral is dedicated to the birth of Mary. The church stands on a small square, which was built from 1696 to 1775. In the interior of the church, paintings and votive gifts from sailors, the Stations of the Cross and Vivarini's altarpiece of the Nativity of Mary are on display.
The Stations of the Cross is a copy of Tiepolo's, located in the Church of Saint Paul in Venice. The biggest attractions are the church's marble altar, the dominant bell tower on the square and the relics of St. Romulus.
