Rovinj is an interesting town located on the west coast of Croatian Istria, just below the Lim Channel. It has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers. The place has two ports, the north for cargo ships and the south for other vessels.
Rovinj is a popular tourist destination, as it offers many opportunities - discovering cultural heritage, archeological sites, culinary specialties, romantic walks, engaging in recreational activities and much more. Rovinj is characterized by two city centers and specially built chimneys. Due to these special sights, the old town of Rovinj was declared a cultural monument in 1963. Rovinj has many cultural and historical sights, among which the most famous are the Church of St. Euphemia, the Franciscan monastery and the church of St. Francis of Assisi, the city palace, the city clock, Balbi's arch, the Romanesque church of the Holy Trinity, the Antonio Gandusio theater, the building of the Center for Historical Research and the city walls and gates. Church of St. Euphemia is a Baroque building in the Venetian style and the largest monument in the city. From its 60-meter-high tower there is a beautiful view of the gray-red roofs, chimneys, squares and streets, the port and harbor with boats and ships and the marina with yachts. On the site of today's church, until the 10th century, stood the church of St. George, who remained the patron saint of the parish, and his statue stands on the main altar of the church. The construction of the bell tower began in 1651 and lasted for 26 years.
The bell tower is said to be similar to the bell tower of St. Mark in Venice. On top of the bell tower in 1758 was placed a large copper statue of the Christian martyr St. Euphemia, who replaced the previous wooden one.
