Stinica is a tourist village located about a kilometer from the village of Jablanac, in the small bay of Vela Stinica. It belongs to the town of Senj, which is the oldest settlement in the northern Adriatic, in the Lika-Senj county. Stinica is formed by Mala Stinica and Vela Stinica bays.
Vela Stinica is a branched and fairly wide bay, which is not suitable for anchoring due to its great depth. Anchoring is possible only in the northern area of the bay, but only at a sea depth of up to 20 meters. Vessels can moor at the pier, which was once used for loading wood. In the southern area of the Vela Stinica bay, there is an apartment complex, which also includes a small shop, two bars, a shop offering fresh vegetables, ice cream, billiards and a small bar on the beach. During the summer months, Stinica is visited by local musicians who sing Dalmatian music. Due to its shape, the bay is protected from the winds. The entire bay of Vela Stinica is exposed to westerly winds. Mala Stinica Bay is located south of Vela Stinica Bay. It has a 150-meter-long pier with a pier of the former sawmill. The depth of the sea in this area is four meters. In the ancient period, there was a settlement of Ortopla in the area of Stinica, from which the remains of a medieval fortress, graves and foundations of buildings have been preserved. The settlement is said to have been destroyed in the 13th century by the Turkish people, the Tatars.
Since the beginning of July 2012, ferries from Stinica connect the mainland with the island of Rab. Before that, the ferry connection ran from the nearby settlement of Jablanac. South of the village is the beautiful bay of Zavratnica, which is one of the most beautiful bays in the northern Adriatic.
