Umag is a picturesque coastal town located on the northwestern coast of Istria. Administratively, it belongs to Istria County. It lies along the coastal road connecting Savudrija with Novigrad, close to the Slovenian border. It is an important tourist, cultural, and sports center.
The town combines a rich historical heritage, a Mediterranean atmosphere, well-maintained beaches, and a modern tourist offer, which makes it one of the most popular destinations in the northern Adriatic. Among the most important sights is the old town center with its narrow stone streets and remnants of the city walls, where the influence of Venetian architecture can still be felt today. A special landmark is the Church of the Assumption of Mary with its distinctive bell tower, which creates the recognizable silhouette of Umag. The town also impresses visitors with its rich culinary offer, dominated by Istrian specialties, olive oil, seafood, and high-quality wines. Along the coast there is a well-kept promenade, a marina, and numerous beaches suitable both for families and for lovers of sports activities. One of the most famous events in Umag is the ATP Croatia Open tennis tournament, which every year attracts many visitors and sports enthusiasts from all over the world. In addition to sports events, the town also hosts music festivals, gastronomic events, Istrian fairs, and summer open-air concerts. In the very center of the town there is a city park, which represents an important green area of Umag. The park is well maintained and intended for relaxation and socializing, with beautifully planted trees providing pleasant shade and arranged walking paths. Due to its proximity to the old town center and the coast, it is a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors. In the central part of the park there is a fountain, which gives the space a special aesthetic value and a pleasant atmosphere. The sound of flowing water creates a sense of calm and relaxation, while benches around the fountain allow visitors to rest and enjoy the city vibe and Mediterranean ambience. The city park in Umag is an ideal place for a relaxing walk, resting in the shade, or pleasant socializing, and it also represents an excellent starting point for exploring the town’s sights, coastline, and authentic Istrian atmosphere.
Together with surrounding buildings, green areas, and nearby streets, it forms a well-organized urban core where history and modern life intertwine. Directly next to the park is also the town hall, an important administrative building whose architecture complements the appearance of the city center.
