Baska is a picturesque settlement and municipality of the same name, located in the southwestern area of the island of Krk. The place has been a popular tourist destination since the 19th century.
The town with narrow streets and old stone houses is characterized by a rich historical and cultural heritage. Baska was already inhabited in prehistoric times, as evidenced by the sites in the caves. It was first mentioned in written sources in 1232. Its past is closely intertwined with the history of the island of Krk. Baska became an independent municipality in 1994. The city has an abundance of cultural attractions, from old palaces and buildings to sacral cultural monuments. The most famous are the parish church of the Holy Trinity, the church of St. Ivan the Baptist, the church of the Mother of God Goricka, the chapel of St. Mark, the Baska plaque, the Ethnological Museum of Baska and more. Church of St. John the Baptist is the former first parish church in the Baska basin, which was built in the 11th century. The belfry has the oldest bell in the area from 1431, which is known as the Old Man. The church was abandoned at the beginning of the 19th century. It was rebuilt after cholera. Next to the church is a cemetery where local people have been buried for centuries. As part of entertainment events in Baška, the following cultural events take place - Baska Cultural Summer, Fisherman's Day, Big Guitar Festival, Dancing in Nature and Rokova.
Baska Aquarium is located in the center of the city and offers an unforgettable experience of the marine world and the bottom of the Adriatic. Favorable climatic conditions contributed to the development of crops such as figs, olives and vines.
