Baska is a settlement and municipality of the same name, located in the southwestern part of the island of Krk. The town with its old stone houses and narrow streets has a rich cultural and historical heritage. Baska has been a popular tourist destination since the 19th century.
Baska was already inhabited in prehistoric times, as evidenced by the sites in the caves. It was first mentioned in written sources in 1232. It became an independent municipality in 1994. The town is surrounded by forests and many sandy and pebbly beaches, the most beautiful of which is Vela beach. The city has an extraordinary number of cultural attractions, from old palaces and buildings to sacral cultural monuments. The most important are the church of Holy Trinity, Church of St. John the Baptist, the Church of the Mother of God Goricka, the Baska plaque, the Ethnographic Museum of Baska and more. The parish church of the Holy Trinity is the largest church in the Baska area. It was built in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 19th century, in 1723. The church bell tower is 28 meters high and was built in 1766. Inside the church there are eight altars, one of which is dedicated to the Holy Trinity.
The paintings in the parish church are the works of famous painters, from Jacopo Palma Jr. from the 17th century, by the Mljetan Paul Campus from the 16th century, by Fran Juric from the 18th century. A special treasure represents an artistically crafted silver cross, which was a gift from the Frankopan princes of Krst.
