Lake Trakoscan spreads out next to the beautiful Trakoscan Castle, which was built in the 13th century as a small fortress. The fort was first mentioned in written sources in 1334. The castle was nationalized in 1944, and since 1954 it has housed a museum with a permanent collection.
The immediate surroundings of the Trakoscan manor are designed as a landscape park, which together with the Trakoscan lake, meadows, trees and shrubs form a harmonious whole. In addition to oak and hornbeam, exotic types of trees thrive in the park, which, especially in autumn, give it a special color and dynamism. Lake Trakoscan is located at 246 meters above sea level. It is an artificial lake that was created in the period from 1853 to 1862, when a dam was built on the Cemernica stream. Its area is about 17 hectares, it is about 1.5 kilometers long and its maximum depth is four meters.
In the summer months, the lake water warms up to a pleasant 22 degrees Celsius, while in winter the surface of the lake freezes and remains frozen for about three months. Lake Trakoscan represents an extremely rare and valuable natural category. There are walking paths by the lake, which turn this space into a unique promenade.
