Medulin - Harbour

Medulin has long faced the sea and its sheltered bay at the southern tip of Istria. Fishing, seafaring and coastal trade played an important part in its past, and the harbour area remains central to the town's identity.

Medulin Harbour occupies the sheltered inner part of Medulin Bay beside the waterfront. Shallow water and long piers form several small harbour basins filled with motorboats, sailing boats and excursion vessels.

The harbour is closely tied to the development of Medulin beside the sea. Recreational craft and boat trips around the nearby archipelago now complement the town's older fishing and maritime traditions, although the gallery neither presents nor recommends individual operators.

The photographs follow paved edges, concrete piers and floating moorings. Between the boats, views open towards the town roofs and the towers of St Agnes, or out towards the wider bay. Dense rows of masts and calm water provide the gallery's strongest visual themes.

A walk around the harbour continues naturally along the waterfront to the stone Malin windmill. As the moorings are working spaces and conditions are seasonal, the arrangement of vessels and access to individual piers may change.
