The Church of St. Peter is located on the plain below Kamenjak, which is the highest peak of the island of Rab. Nearby is the village of Supetarska Draga, which is one of the oldest places on the island. The place is surrounded by many uninhabited islands with wild beaches.
The church was built in the second half of the 11th century. It is the only complete remnant of the former Benedictine abbey, which was abolished in 1467. Two documents have been preserved about the design of the monastery, which were created in a span of about ten years. The remains of the Benedictine monastery are partially visible today in the preserved wall of the south wing with Romanesque windows. Its individual parts were incorporated into later buildings such as the parish and the village cooperative, while the rest were recently destroyed. The most important part of the former abbey is the almost completely preserved church of St. Peter. The church facade is Romanesque from the 12th century, shaped like a basilica. The bell tower is also characterized by Romanesque elements.
It houses the oldest bell in Dalmatia, which was made in 1290 by the foundry Luka, a monk from Venecia. Also interesting is the smaller bell, which was made in 1593 by the master Jakov Caldelarius, who also made the big bell in the Rab Cathedral.
