Drvenik is a coastal fishing village in southern Dalmatia, Croatia, which administratively belongs to the municipality of Gradac. It is one of the pearls of the Makarska riviera and an ideal place to spend a vacation with the family and escape from everyday responsibilities.
It is located at the foot of the steep ridges of the Biokovo mountain range along the main road Split - Dubrovnik. It lies in the bay of Donja uvala, about 30 km southeast of Makarska. The coast around Drvenik is articulated and has many small bays. It is well protected from the effects of northern winds. The main economic branch is tourism. In addition, fishing and agriculture are also developed, especially goat breeding and olives. The settlement has a rich historical past. North of Drvenik, on a rocky hill, there are the remains of a wall with a defensive tower from the 17th century. Drvenik is home to the Gothic church of St. George, which was later remodeled in the Baroque style. Tombstones from the Middle Ages are built into the church walls. Throughout the year, Drvenik is connected to the island of Hvar by a ferry line via Sucuraj, the resort and port, and in the summer via Dominc to the island of Korcula. The place has two ports, south and north. The southern one, which is the ferry port, is protected by a 50-meter-long breakwater, at the end of which stands a lighthouse. The nominal range of the beacon is 3 miles. This harbor is open to southerly winds. The depth of the sea at the breakwater is around four meters. The north port resembles a large mandrake with a rafter at the end. The depth of the sea at the pier is 3.5 meters, while at the breakwater it is up to three meters. Drvenik is ideal for lovers of active vacations, as it is characterized by kilometers of long promenades, bicycle paths, hiking on rugged terrain, diving, rock climbing and much more, which is offered by friendly locals.
Drvenik has pebble beaches, which are mostly covered by pine shade. The rich gastronomic offer of local restaurants ensures an unforgettable experience. Numerous sports, entertainment and cultural events offer something for everyone.
