Pakostane is a popular coastal destination and the center of the municipality of the same name in northern Dalmatia, administratively belonging to Zadar County. It is located in a unique position between the Adriatic Sea and Lake Vrana, the largest natural lake in Croatia, approximately halfway between Zadar and Biograd na Moru.
The settlement lies within the wider area of four national parks – Kornati, Krka, Plitvice Lakes, and Northern Velebit. Due to its location between the sea, the lake, and the protected natural hinterland, Pakostane has long been an important tourist destination. Several picturesque islets are situated in front of the town, including Sveti Justin, Babuljas, Zavinac Veliki, Zavinac Mali, and Veliki Skolj, further enriching the coastal landscape. Among the most notable landmarks are the three-nave stone Parish Church of the Assumption of the Lord on King Tomislav Square, built according to the plans of architect Ciril Ivekovic, and the Church of Saint Justin on the islet of the same name, dating back to the 17th century. Thanks to its geographical position, the town is well protected from southern and southwesterly winds, creating favorable conditions for swimming, sailing, and other sea activities. Punta Beach is the town's main beach, located approximately 900 meters from the center and easily accessible on foot, by bicycle, or by car. It is a well-maintained pebble beach with sandy sections and is especially suitable for families with children due to its shallow and crystal-clear sea. The beach offers numerous opportunities for relaxation and active leisure. Visitors can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, while natural shade is provided by the pine trees surrounding the beach. Water sports enthusiasts can enjoy pedal boats and jet skis, while younger visitors can have fun at the children's playground and water park. Lifeguard services are also available, ensuring a safe and carefree beach experience. Cafes and restaurants are located nearby, where visitors can enjoy refreshing drinks and local specialties with a sea view. Punta Beach combines natural beauty, well-developed infrastructure, and a wide range of amenities, making it one of the most popular bathing areas in Pakostane.
An important part of the town's tourist identity is also the Pine Beach Pakostane holiday resort. Its origins date back to the 1960s when, under the name Club Med Pakostane, it became one of the first major tourism projects in the area. It played a significant role in the development of tourism and remains one of the most recognizable tourist complexes in Pakostane today.
