Interactive map with sights

The town of Cres is a picturesque port settlement on the west coast of the island of Cres. It is the most important tourist center on the island, which was already inhabited in the prehistoric period. The city is a typical example of a settlement dominated by Venetian influence.
Many coats of arms on the facades and thresholds of the houses tell about the former status of the inhabitants, from blacksmiths, carpenters, fishermen and others. The unique feature of the city is the Cres harbor, which digs deep into the city center and is an integral part of the Cres square. The old city center used to be surrounded by city walls, and the city was entered through the city gates. Through the main city gate, people entered from the city square in the harbor. The current Renaissance shape of the door dates back to 1552, when it was restored. Next to the city gate, there is a clock tower and a loggia with a colonnade next to the main square. The bell tower and the cathedral of Saint Mary the Snow are also located there. The parish church is a three-nave building from the 15th century, which has a separate bell tower from the 18th century. The church is characterized by elements of the Gothic and Renaissance styles. It has a Renaissance door and statues of the Archangel Gabriel and the Mother of God. The left altar is decorated with a Late Gothic wooden statue of Pieta, and behind the main altar is Vivarini's painting of the Merciful Mother of God. Small squares, gardens and patrician coats of arms are also special features of Cres. Opposite the harbor stands the oldest Petris Palace, which is known among the locals as Arsan, as it used to be an arsenal. Today, the palace houses a city museum.
