The island of Krk, one of the most popular destinations on the Adriatic, is known for its pleasant Mediterranean climate, crystal-clear sea, and diverse tourist offerings. It is located in the Kvarner Bay and, thanks to the Krk Bridge, is one of the most easily accessible Croatian islands.
Soline Bay is located on the northeastern coast of the island of Krk, between the towns of Klimno, Cizici, and Soline. The towns of Soline and Klimno lie on the southern coast of the bay, while Cizici is located to the west. Administratively, the area belongs to the Municipality of Dobrinj. During the summer months, the renovated coastal promenade is popular among swimmers, while in winter it becomes a favored walking path. In Roman times, it was used for loading salt by salt workers and boat owners who transported salt by boat from local Roman and later Frankopan salt pans, after which the town of Soline was named. In addition to salt, sand was also transported. The promenade was also popular among workers from a brick factory that operated here in the mid-19th century. Until the mid-20th century, especially during World War II, rows of barrels stood along the promenade, in which the inhabitants of the Dobrinj area cooked salt all day and, in times of hardship, exchanged it for flour and sugar. The promenade was extended and renovated several times. Today, Soline is a popular tourist destination due to its natural healing mud, warm sea, and peaceful surroundings. The beaches in this area are mostly sandy and not overly crowded. They are suitable for various sports such as beach volleyball, ball games, kayaking, and sailing. Due to the enclosed and shallow bay, the sea temperature here is higher than in the open Adriatic. The swimming season lasts from mid-spring until late autumn. On the sandy Meline Beach, located in the southwestern part of the bay, visitors can apply therapeutic mud to their bodies and enjoy sunbathing and swimming. The mud is suitable for treating skin conditions as well as bone and joint diseases. The beach is spacious and shallow, making it ideal for families with small children. Soline Bay offers safe shelter from all winds, making it safe and convenient for anchoring.
It is ideal for those seeking a peaceful holiday, as it is less crowded than some other parts of the island, yet still offers everything visitors need for a pleasant stay: hospitality venues, restaurants, shops, beaches, and numerous opportunities for walking and cycling.
