The Krk Bridge is a picturesque bridge that connects the northern and second largest Croatian island of Krk with the mainland near Kraljevica. The length of the Krk bridge with all accesses is 1430 meters, the height is 67 meters and the width of the bridge is 7.5 meters.
It consists of two arches, the Large and the Small Arc. Below Large Arc is the Silent Channel, and below Small Arc is the Stormy Channel. Due to major gusts of wind, the Krk Bridge is closed due to traffic hazards. Construction of the bridge began in 1976 under under the auspices of the then President of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito. The Krk Bridge was ceremoniously opened on July 19, 1980. The Krk Bridge became famous for its concrete arch to the island of Sveti Marko, which was the longest bridge in the world at the time of construction with a length of 390 meters.
Before the bridge was built, the island of Krk was connected to the mainland by ferries on the line Crisnjeva - Voz. To cross the Krk bridge, it is necessary to pay a toll. This is charged only in the direction of travel to the island of Krk, and when returning back to the mainland it is not necessary to pay.
