Crikvenica

Crikvenica is a port and a town that belongs to Primorje-Gorski County in Croatia. It is the most famous climatic spa and tourist center in Kvarner. It is located in the Vinodolski Coast, about 40 km from Reka, along the main road Reka - Split.

The Dubracina river flows through the place. Crikvenica is a popular tourist destination that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists in the summer. It has a favorable climate, summers are dry and warm, winters are mild. The coast is indented and full of bays with gravel and sandy beaches. Crikvenica's natural beauty and mild Mediterranean climate allowed Crikvenica to develop from a sleepy fishing town into a lively tourist destination with the construction of the first Hotel Clotilde. The first bathhouse was built in 1888, and the first hotel in 1891. In the same year, the first tourist guide of Crikvenica was printed, which was in German. Crikvenica also has ideal conditions for medical tourism. It was officially recognized as a spa town in 1906. The settlement developed at the end of the 14th century, around the former church, which is why the place got its name. The Pauline monastery - Frankopan castle was built in 1412 by ban Nikola Frankopan. For many years he was the bearer of education and culture. The painter - miniaturist Julije Klovic also received his first education here. Later, the monastery became a military spa and a children's resort.

Today is the hotel. The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built on the foundations of the former church, the historical area of Crikvenica, in the Gothic style, later it was renovated in the Baroque style.
