Omisalj is located on the northwest coast of the island of Krk. Next to the settlement of Njivice is the first place that awaits the visitor after crossing the famous Krk bridge. The town with the port lies on a well-protected small hill in the Omisalj Bay.
The newer part spreads along the coast in lush vegetation. Omisalj was first mentioned in written sources in 1153 and is considered to be the oldest town on the island. The place has preserved a medieval urban layout, covering the central square with the parish church from 1213 and the Romanesque basilica, which was added later. In addition, the following medieval monuments are valuable - the Church of St. John from 1442, the Church of St. Anthony, the ruins of the prince's palace and the Gothic house Pancirov. The rich cultural heritage is also represented by the city's Lapidarium, which is a collection of stone monuments of the city's history.
