Martinscica is located on the western coast of the island of Cres in an open bay with small hills. It has around 200 inhabitants and is the second largest settlement on Cres. The place was created from a fishing settlement.
The city, as well as the bay, got its name from the church of St. Martin near the coast. On the main church altar is a painting by the famous Venetian painter Baldissera di Anna from 1636. The picture shows Saint Francis, Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Martin. In the 16th century, a Franciscan monastery was built, its monks of the third class were Glagolitic. The church of St. George is also located near the monastery. In the monastery collection, there are two shelter paintings, which are the work of the painter Leopold Jandt from 1759. In the 17th century, the Sforza patrician of Cres built a castle south of the monastery. It is a country manor house characterized by vaulted rooms and arcades that open to a walled garden at the front. Today, there is a famous restaurant in the castle, where they offer a wide range of Mediterranean dishes.
In Martinscica, in addition to the mentioned restaurant, there are several other restaurants and tourist facilities, such as a post office, a pastry shop, a shop, a tourist agency and others. There are two modern campsites near the town, which, together with apartments, private rooms and tourist settlements, can satisfy all the needs of guests.
