Bakarac is located in the Bay of Bakar, not far from Kraljevica and the larger city of Rijeka. The village is administered as a part of the City of Kraljevica and Primorje-Gorski Kotar Country. The main economic activities are tourism, fishing and agriculture.
Bakarac was a military outpost in Roman times. The settlement is known for its original tuners, which are still preserved and have been used very effectively in tuna fishing. Tuners are made of wood, they are climbed by a steep ladder and are steeply sloping over the sea. In Bakarac, two ladder tuners have been preserved and restored. The tuners were also located in Preluk, Kraljevica, many places on the island of Krk and elsewhere. Tuna fishing is mentioned in Preluk in 1438, when the Rijeka authorities allowed fishermen from Rijeka and Kastav to set up tuna traps there. Bakarac is surrounded by concrete beaches, each with its own name. In the direction from Rijeka, they are called Kupaliste, Mala plazica, Palada, Skalada, Melina, Prva kucica (fishing houses are meant), Druga kucica, Sansovo (above it is the football field of the same name) and Kavranic (third fishing house).
The place is also known for the wind, which is extremely strong due to the location of the settlement and is immediately behind the Senj wind in its strength. At the top of Bakarac is the village of Turina. In Bakarac, Hotel Bakarac is located with a restaurant, which is close to the sea and is an ideal transit location.
