Opatija is a picturesque tourist destination in Croatia, which attracts many foreign and domestic visitors throughout the year. The place is characterized by many beautifully landscaped parks, churches, sculptures and cultural and historical sites.
The largest attractions are the Kvarner Hotel, the American Gardens, the Church and Park of St. James, the Church of the Annunciation, the sculpture of the girl with the seagull, the Slatina fountain, the Croatian Hall of Fame, Opatija's small port, Angiolina Park, Margarita Park, the annual theater and more. The Croatian Hall of Fame project was introduced in Opatija in 2005 by the Apriori Communications agency as a symbolic recognition to all individuals whose sports, scientific, cultural or artistic activities have significantly contributed to the global promotion of Croatia. Potential candidates for inclusion are nominated by an independent project commission represented by several notable public figures. From the nominations of the board of directors, readers of media sponsors vote for the adoption of which two candidates (one alive, the other awarded posthumously) should get a star on the Croatian street of fame.
