Slano

Slano is a small coastal settlement and the administrative centre of the municipality of Dubrovačko primorje. It lies in a spacious, well-protected bay about 30 kilometres northwest of Dubrovnik. The settlement is characterised by its long waterfront, marina, pebble beaches and the green hills surrounding the bay.

The history of Slano is closely connected with the Republic of Dubrovnik, which acquired the Dubrovnik Littoral in 1399. Among the most important historic buildings is the Rector's Palace, while a Franciscan monastery with the Church of St Jerome stands nearby.

Today Slano is a peaceful tourist destination, well suited to walks by the sea, swimming and exploring the Dubrovnik Littoral. Moorings for boats, restaurants, landscaped squares and waterfront paths can be found along the coast. A monument to Croatian defenders also stands in the park beside the waterfront promenade.
