Volosko is a small tourist settlement located near Opatija. The former fishing village is today a very popular gourmet destination with excellent restaurants. The center of the place is a fishing port known as mandrac.
The port is a venue for performances by klapa vocal groups and jazz music, as well as other cultural events. Volosko is distinguished by its Mediterranean architecture, which is characterized by stone steps and narrow streets that hide many art galleries and studios. Before Opatija became a holiday center, Volosko was the seat of the district, the administrative center of the area and an important trading port. Today, Volosko has lost this importance, but not its attractiveness as an interesting fishing village. Volosko has many cultural and historical sights, among which is the birthplace of the world-famous scientist Andrije Mohorovicic (1857-1936), meteorologist and seismologist. Another reason to visit Volosko are the beaches and the ten-kilometer long seaside promenade Lungomare, which starts in Volosko and winds along the coast to Opatija and on to Lovran. Crnikovica Beach is a favorite beach of many residents of Opatija.
Part of the beach is pebbly, and on the other part there is a concrete area from which you can enter the sea with a sandy bottom. Since the sea in this area is shallow, it is ideal for the youngest or for playing volleyball in the sea.
