Vrsar is a picturesque town located on a high hill by the sea. It is one of the most attractive Istrian settlements. There are many cultural and historical attractions in Vrsar, the Montraker quarry and the sculpture park. There is also a sports airport nearby. Emperor Otto III. donated the city to the Porec bishops in 983.
The diocese was the owner of the land until 1778. The town was fortified with a manor house, which today has been turned into a palace, and surrounded by towers and walls, only one of which has been preserved in its original form. On the square in front of Vrsar are the city gates and the three-altar church of St. Froske from the 17th century. At the top of the hill stand the parish church of St. Martin and the bishop's palace. The church was built between 1927 and 1935. The bell tower is 40 meters high and was erected in 1991. Next to the town square is the municipal palace with a bell, which is the seat of the current municipality. It was built on the initiative of the Orio family in 1698. Here is also the Gate of St. Anthony with built-in cannonballs, lodge of St. Anton Abbot from 1656 and the Small Gate. Church of St. Maria is located next to the port. It was built in the 12th century, and later it was turned into a monastery. Nearby are the remains of an early Christian basilica from the 4th century. In front of the port, in the middle of the bay, lies the small island of St. Juraj, and a little further on is the Koversada naturist camp.
Vrsar has many catering establishments, such as restaurants, taverns, pizzerias, nightclubs, bars, and many recreational and sports facilities, such as tennis courts, mini golf, volleyball courts, and more. It is also possible to rent bicycles, windsurfing boards, sailboats and boats. The city is also known for its varied entertainment program during the summer months.
