Savudrija

Savudrija is a coastal town in Croatia that belongs to the Istrian County. This is the most western county of Croatia. The administrative center is Pazin, and the largest city is Pula, which is best known for its Roman amphitheater.
Administratively, Savudrija belongs to Umag. The town is located on the extreme northwestern part of the Istrian coast on the cape of the same name, which is also the most western point of the Balkan Peninsula. The area of Savudrija includes the hamlets and settlements of Savudrija, called Stara Savudrija, Borozija, Volparija, Alberi, Valfontane, Basanija, Ravna dolina, Gabmboc, Romanija, Zambratija and Monteneto. Savudrija is a small fishing town, which was first mentioned in written sources in the 12th century, and archaeological finds testify to the fact that it was inhabited in the Stone Age. On the articulated, mostly rocky coast, there are pebbly beaches in certain parts. The coastal area is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation such as palm trees, laurel, cypresses, pine trees and various types of evergreen shrubs. Due to the marine and plant atmosphere, the climate in Savudrija has a stimulating and beneficial effect on health. This was already known during the Austro-Hungarian period. It is for this reason that spa tourism began to develop in the settlement. The sea around the Savudrija peninsula offers excellent conditions for windsurfing and is popular with both beginners and professional surfers.
The peninsula has a rich cultural and historical heritage. In addition to many Roman ruins, medieval monasteries and churches, a popular tourist attraction is the Savudrija lighthouse, where guests can also stay.
