The capital and largest city of Croatia, Zagreb, is divided into Upper Town, where most of the oldest and important sights are located, such as the Zagreb Cathedral, the funicular, the Lotrscak Tower and Lower Town, which is a tourist and business center.
The center of the Lower Town is Ban Jelacic Square, which is the heart of Zagreb and the main meeting point for local people. From Zrinjevac Park leads the Prague Street to a series of squares – parks, the Zagreb version of the Vienna Ring, so called Lenuci horseshoe. These are so called U-shaped parks that house all the important representative buildings of bourgeois culture. The Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Train Station, the University Library, the National Theater and representative palaces are located here. The avenues of wild chestnut and yellow facades are reminiscent of Croatia's membership of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Zrinjevac, Nikola Subic Zrinski Square, is a Zagreb square and a park with a tree line of plane trees brought from Trieste over a hundred years ago. In the northern part of the Park Zrinjevac stands a meteorological pillar, which was erected in 1884 as a gift from the war doctor Adolf Holzer. The southern part of Park Zrinjevac houses monuments of famous Croatians: Andrija Medulic, Julije Klovic, Nikola Jurisic, Fran Krsto Frankopan, Ivan Mazuranic and Ivan Kukuljevic Sakcinski. The centerpiece of the Park Zrinjevac is the 19th century Music pavilion which serves as an open-air concert stage surrounded by Zagreb institutions. The park is also home to town's first fountain. Built in 1878 and designed by Herman Bolle the fountain is known as The Mushroom. Because it hosts live concerts, different art projects and events the Park Zrinjevac is filled with different delicious food and drink booths. Zrinjevac Park is surrounded by Zagreb institutions and historic buildings, such as the Zagreb County Court, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters, Archaeological Museum in Zagreb and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia.
Major Zrinjevac Events are Advent on Zrinjevac, Food Film Festival Zagreb and Cest is d'Best. Zrinjevac Park is easily accessible on foot from Zagreb ban Jelacic Square. It is one of the most romantic places in Zagreb. It is a gathering place for everyone.
