Zagreb is the capital town of Croatia. It is connecting the Mediterranean and continental spirit into a whole. On the northern part, it is protected from cold winds by Mount Medvednica, while the Sava River and the vast plain open it to other parts of the world.
Zagreb is filled with Parks and Gardens throughout the town. They are perfect places to relax, to have a picnic, go for a stroll and even sunbathe. In the centre of Zagreb there are eight parks, which are Zagreb's versions of the Vienna Ring, the so called green horseshoe (Lenuzzi horseshoe). These are U shapes parks with all the important representative buildings of bourgeois culture around them. During a pleasant walk from Zrinjevac, through the Botanical Garden, to Marshal Tito Square and Marulic Square, a line of flowers and greenery goes. Opatovina Park was transformed into a public promenade after World War II. The park consists of six gardens that used to belong to the buildings on Kaptol Street. In the northwestern part of Opatovina Park, there is a beautiful tower and a 70 centimeters thick Kaptol wall in the corner, which is made of irregular stones. During the summer, Park Opatovina is enriched with an outdoor stage where theater and music events take place.
Beautiful green spaces in Zagreb are also Bundek Park, Art Park, Maksimir Park, Zagreb Botanical Gardens and Ribnjak Park. At its opening, Maksimir Park was the first public promenade in this part of Europe. It is the prominent gem of garden architecture in Croatia.
