Brestova is a village located on the eastern coast of Istria under the mountain ridge of Ucka. The place is best known as a ferry port and represents an important traffic route between the Croatian mainland and the island of Cres.
The island of Cres is the longest and largest Croatian island, which was once connected to the island of Losinj by a narrow strip of land, but today they are connected by a small bridge. The highest peaks form the mountain ridge in the northern part of the island - Gorice, Orlinj and Sis. On the island is the freshwater lake Vrana. Cres is connected to the mainland by the Porozina - Brestova ferry line and to the island of Krk by the Merag - Valbiska ferry line. During the tourist season, more than 10,000 vehicles are transported by ship from the port of Brestova to Porozina on the island of Cres. There is a lighthouse on the wharf that has a nominal range of 4 miles. Porozina is divided into the old Porozina, which is located on the hill above the port, and the new Porozina, which was built in the last 20 years.
Brestova belongs to the municipality of Krsan, the center of which is the settlement of Krsan, which includes the old town center and the new part along the main road. In the old area, there are the remains of a once mighty medieval castle, which was first mentioned in written sources in 1274.
