Labin with neighbourhood

Labin and its surroundings belong to Istria County, the westernmost county of Croatia, covering a large part of the Istrian Peninsula. Along the coast there are hotels, apartments, restaurants, and sports facilities that complement the tourist offer. Plomin is a historic settlement located on a hill above Plomin Bay. Its history dates back to ancient times when it was known as Flanona and represented an important Roman settlement. Today, remains of medieval walls, churches, and the famous Glagolitic Plomin inscription can still be seen, making it one of the oldest monuments of Croatian literacy. Due to its position, Plomin offers exceptional panoramic views of the bay, industrial areas, and the open sea. Plomin Bay is a deeply indented, narrow, and naturally well-protected sea bay on the eastern coast of Istria. Its shape allows calm sea conditions, while the depth of the water enables access for larger ships. In the inner part of the bay lies Plomin Luka, a small port important for local and industrial traffic. The Plomin Thermal Power Plant is also located along the bay and represents an important energy facility in the region, positioned there due to favorable geographical conditions – deep water, sheltered location, and good sea access. Despite industrial infrastructure, parts of the coastline remain calm, with a characteristic mix of rocky shorelines, sparse vegetation, and natural environment. Hotel Flanona is located in a panoramic position above Plomin and is one of the most recognizable viewpoints in this part of Istria. It offers an exceptional view of the Kvarner Bay, the islands of Cres and Lošinj, and the entire Plomin Bay. The hotel is a popular stop for visitors seeking a combination of peace, views, and a starting point for exploring eastern Istria, including Labin, Rabac, and Plomin. Brestova is a small coastal settlement on the eastern coast of Istria in the municipality of Krsan. Due to its location on the Kvarner Gulf, it represents one of the most important transport connections between the Istrian peninsula and the island of Cres. From the ferry port of Brestova, a year-round ferry line operates to Porozina, providing fast and reliable access to the island and significantly contributing to the transport connectivity of the Kvarner region. The settlement is surrounded by untouched nature and the slopes of the Ucka Nature Park, which descend steeply towards the sea. This area is characterized by rich Mediterranean vegetation, numerous viewpoints, and exceptional biodiversity. Right next to the ferry port lies the small Brestova beach, which attracts visitors with its clean sea, natural surroundings, and pleasant atmosphere.

The entire Labin area and its surroundings represent a strong contrast of natural and social elements: a historic hilltop town, a tourist coastline, industrial infrastructure, and a peaceful Istrian hinterland. It is precisely this diversity that gives the region its unique character and distinguishes it from more homogeneous tourist areas of Istria.
