Moscenice is a small settlement in Croatia that belongs to the municipality of Moscenicka Draga, which belongs to the Primorje-Gorski County. The capital of the county is Rijeka. Moscenice is located on a scenic hill above Mosceniska Draga.
The settlement is located on the south-eastern coast of Istria, about eight kilometers from Lovran, in an exposed position above Mosceniska Draga. Moscenice is a popular excursion spot because of the wonderful view of the Kvarner Bay and the preserved Mediterranean architecture. A staircase leads from the village to the famous sandy beach in Mosceniska Draga. It is known as Sipar and is one of the most beautiful beaches on the entire Opatija Riviera. Sveti Ivan beach is also nearby. Many opportunities for marine activities and sports are available to visitors. The settlement was first mentioned in written sources in 1374 as an independent commune owned by the lords of Kastava. Over time, the town has preserved the image of a picturesque medieval fortified settlement with a castle tower and old houses. It is possible to access Moscenica only through the only preserved town gate. The Habsburg coat of arms was carved above the door during the reconstruction in 1634. In the labyrinth of steep and narrow streets, the only flat area is the main square, which is adorned by the baroque church of St. Andrija. The former medieval church was remodeled and enlarged, and it got its present form in 1794. On the main altar are marble sculptures by the sculptor Contieri from Padua from the beginning of the 18th century.
The sculptures in the lapidary and choir benches are from the beginning of the 17th century. The church houses an ethnographic museum collection with a preserved 300-year-old mill that was used to produce olive oil. Moscenice is included in the list of Croatian cultural heritage.
