Stjepan Radic Square - Hotel International

Stjepan Radic Square is Crikvenica’s lively centre, framed by historic buildings and cafés.

Hotel International stands on the north-eastern edge of Stjepan Radic Square, where its ground-floor premises open directly onto the paved public space. Opened in 1964, its height and long horizontal façade clearly express the post-war phase of Crikvenica’s tourism development.

During the 1970s the International became one of the important venues of the town’s carnival life. At the largest celebrations, three bands could play simultaneously in different rooms and attendance could reach about two thousand people. This explains why local memory treats the building not merely as accommodation but also as a former social centre.

The hotel is visible from most of the square and marks its eastern side. Opposite older town façades, it represents a later layer in the resort’s growth; the First Croatian Savings Bank and the old Murvica tree stand nearby. The clearest overall views are obtained from the centre of the square or from its waterfront edge.
