Dramalj is a small coastal tourist settlement in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Croatia, located directly next to Crikvenica, with which it is closely connected both spatially and administratively. The two places are linked by a well-maintained seaside promenade, popular among walkers and recreational visitors, stretching along the coast and offering beautiful views of the Kvarner coast.
Dramalj is known for its pleasant Mediterranean atmosphere, mild climate, and a harmonious blend of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The heart of the settlement is its central square, which represents an important social and cultural meeting point. On the square stands the Church of St. Helen, the most significant religious and historical landmark of Dramalj, built on the site of a former Baroque chapel. With its architecture and long history, the church strongly shapes the appearance of the square and the settlement. Nearby is the Monument to the National Liberation War, dedicated to the memory of events and victims of the resistance movement, adding to the historical identity of the area. Another important feature of the square is the Community Hall (Narodni dom), which for decades has served as a venue for social life, cultural events, and gatherings of local residents. Special attention is also drawn to the stone fountain dated 1890, which reflects everyday life in the past and the historical methods of water supply, completing the traditional character of the central area. Dramalj is first mentioned in written sources in the 18th century as a fishing harbor where local residents cultivated olive trees and maintained olive groves. More intensive development began at the end of the 19th century, in parallel with the tourism growth of Crikvenica, which greatly influenced the transformation of Dramalj into a popular tourist destination. Today, the settlement offers a wide range of accommodation in private villas, apartments, and hotels, well-maintained beaches, diverse dining options, and a lively summer program.
Thanks to its proximity to Crikvenica and its good transport and promenade connections, Dramalj is an excellent choice for visitors seeking a peaceful environment while remaining close to urban activities, cultural events, and additional tourist amenities.
