Labin - Negri Palace

LabinLabin is a historic town in eastern Istria whose old and newer districts differ in character. Within the old centre, buildings have repeatedly taken on new functions over time.

Along the former defensive edge, Labin - Giuseppina Martinuzzi StreetGiuseppina Martinuzzi Street winds between connected rows of houses.

Negri Palace stands here, near Labin - Manzini PalaceManzini Palace. Its longer façade, ground floor divided by colour and row of windows appear between the narrow street views.

The house was home to the Negri family, who moved to Labin in the early 16th century. Its members were also involved in trading timber and agricultural produce and owned several houses in town. The palace, with Baroque features, later changed use several times: it served as a hospital, maternity ward and school.

An information panel on the façade helps identify the building among its neighbours. Its journey from noble residence to public institutions shows how the same building adapted to very different needs of the town. This history gives the long street frontage more meaning than its windows and plaster alone reveal.
