Sveti Lovrec is a village located in the western part of Istria, about 14 km from Porec. The place was named after the cemetery church of St. Lawrence from the 8th century. Local people are traditionally engaged in agriculture, but also work in entrepreneurship and service activities.
Sveti Lovrec has a characteristic structure and has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In Roman times it became the seat of major feudal estates. In the town lodge is a collection of Roman inscriptions. Defensive structures were built in late antiquity, and from the 10th century onwards it became a feudal settlement of the Porec diocese. It is mentioned by its present name in the 12th century. It passed under the rule of Venice in 1271. This period is characterized by gaining independence. Today, Sveti Lovrec has an urban look with well-preserved Venetian walls and the city gates, which were further strengthened and restored in 1368. The triapsid church of Sv. Martin dates from the 9th or 11th century. The church got a new facade in 1838, the frescoes date from the 11th and 15th centuries. The wooden altar from the 16th century is the work of a local master. The town lodge with a 15th-century lapidary stands next to the church, and a shameful pillar stands opposite it in the central square.
The medieval walls are well preserved, the oldest parts of the walls are from the 10th and 11th centuries. At the city gate is the church of St. Blaise from 1460, which was built in the style of folk Gothic. In the vicinity of Sveti Lovrec, vines, cereals and olives grow well.
