Ustrine is a small village located on the west coast of the island of Cres. It lies approximately 180 meters above the Gulf of Ustrine. The place is an ideal resort for those who escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
There are very few inhabitants living in the village, who mostly make a living from tourism, but mainly from sheep farming and fishing. The original settlement is said to have existed already in the time of the Romans, as evidenced by numerous finds. The largest local landmark is the Romanesque church of St. Martin, which houses the remains of a Roman villa and an ancient Roman archaeological site. In addition to the wonderful view of Kvarner, visitors are impressed by the hospitality of friendly and simple locals, with whom it is also possible to find accommodation. In the village inn, delicious specialties such as fresh fish and seafood are available to guests. Traditional folk festivals take place in Ustrine, where visitors can have fun listening to original island music. Another interesting event is the shearing of sheep, which is organized in the months of June and July and guests can also see it up close.
Near the church of St. Martin, a very steep road leads to the coast, where it is possible to swim in the Gulf of Ustrine. The sheltered bay is surrounded by sand and gravel. Ustrine offers a special experience with unforgettable sunsets and sunrises.
