Porozina is a picturesque village located on the western cape of the island of Cres. The settlement administratively belongs to the town of Cres and belongs to the Primorje-Gorski County.
The village is best known for its ferry port, which has a regular connection with the settlement of Brestova in Istria. The place is divided into the old Porozina, built on the hill above the port, and the new Porozina, which was built in the last 20 years. A lighthouse stood on the hill in antiquity, after which the place got its name (Pharum Insulae). In the Italian language, Faresina comes from the Latin word Pharum, or lighthouse. Today, the ruins of the Franciscan monastery of St. Nicholas and the Gothic church of the same name from the 15th century are located in this area. The monastery was founded in the 16th century, but ceased to function in 1843. The church was looted several times and almost burned down in the 16th century. Now it is relatively well preserved and the verbal inscriptions are still visible. The remains of the monastery walls show the characteristics of Renaissance architecture. The bay of Porozina is naturally protected from strong storms and for this reason it has been an important harbor for centuries. The main thoroughfare of both islands runs from Porozina along the entire island of Cres, to the town of Osor and further to the end of the island of Losinj.
The length of the road is 85 kilometers. In addition to the ferry line Porozina - Brestova, the island of Cres is also connected to the mainland by the line Merag - Valbiska to the island of Krk.
