Rogoznica is a small village and fishing port located south of Sibenik. It is the center of the municipality of Rogoznica, which belongs to the Sibenik-Knin County. The peaceful Mediterranean town is known for its clear sea, sacral and cultural sights and the most beautiful marina on the Adriatic.
The inhabitants are mostly engaged in tourism, agriculture and fishing. The old town of Rogoznica is located on the island of Kopara, which in the second half of the 19th century was connected to the mainland by an artificial embankment. The old town is dominated by stone houses, due to which the settlement has retained the characteristic appearance of a Mediterranean town. The history of the settlement dates back to 1518. It was built on the foundations of a former Greek settlement from the 4th century BC. At the top of the hill are the remains of a fortress that was started to be built during the Napoleonic Illyrian Provinces in 1809. The former island is covered with a pine forest. Rogoznica is known for its many sacral sights. The parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1615 and renovated in the Baroque style in 1746. It is unique in that it is the only building in Dalmatia that is wider than longer. Among the sights are also the church of the Chapel of Mary on the Gradina peninsula, the church of St. John the Baptist and the original parish church of St. Nicholas. Among the special features are the Rogoznica Marine Aquarium, which is located outdoors in a small park, and the Lavender Labyrinth, which stretches to the top of the Kopara hill. The picturesque Lake Zmajevo oko is located on the Gradina peninsula. The salt lake is a unique hydrogeomorphological phenomenon. It is surrounded by cliffs that are 4 to 24 meters high, and the depth of the lake is about 15 meters. Rogoznica is known for Marina Frapa, which is the most beautiful marina in the Adriatic area. It is the best Croatian marina and the best nautical base in the world. The marina is awarded with a blue flag. The place is characterized by many rocky and sandy beaches surrounded by crystal clear sea. One of the most beautiful beaches in Rogoznica is the Sepurine beach, on which the blue flag flies, which is an indicator of the order and cleanliness of the sea. Near Marina Frapa is the pebble beach Miline. Crljine beach is partly sprinkled with stones and partly concreted. In Rogoznica there are many restaurants and taverns that offer Dalmatian and Mediterranean specialties of crabs, fish and shellfish. They also offer delicious meat dishes, homemade cheese, olive oil, prosciutto and local red wine Babic.
In the summer, a rich cultural and entertainment program takes place in Rogoznica. The most interesting events are Fisherman's Night, Mary's Chapel, Awakening of the Dragon and Rogoznica Night. Fishing night is top-notch entertainment with wine, fish, olive oil and local music.
