Trsteno - Church of St Vitus

Trsteno descends from the main Adriatic road through a scattered village and lush Mediterranean vegetation towards the sea. Beyond its famous arboretum, stone houses, village lanes and smaller historic and religious landmarks shape the settlement.

The parish Church of St Vitus stands in the upper part of Trsteno at a panoramic position above the sea. The parish has medieval roots, while the church has been altered and restored several times over the centuries. Its stone exterior is distinguished by a tall bell tower, a rose window and a finely framed entrance portal.

A small cemetery with carved stone monuments lies beside the church, and views towards the sea and the Elaphite Islands open beneath the cypresses. The church is an important sacred landmark and a pleasant stop between the centre of Trsteno and the arboretum.
