Labin - Round Torjon Bastion

LabinLabin is a historic hilltop town in eastern Istria. Its old centre grew within a ring of fortifications, remains of which are still visible.

Labin - Marshal Tito SquareMarshal Tito Square lies outside the wall; its edge leads visitors from the open space to the former town defences.

The round Torjon Bastion stands at this edge. Its curved stone wall is a distinctive part of the fortifications seen from the square, and steps lead to the upper platform.

Torjon is a surviving part of the town's former defensive system. A municipal source dates it to 1617, after the Uskok attack. A cannon from the Austrian period stands on the platform; it was placed there again in the 1990s. The cannon is a later object on an older fortification, not evidence of its original armament.

Up close, the contrast between the massive rounded outer wall and the open platform above becomes clear. Steps lead from the square to the stone edge with its cannon, offering a better understanding of the fortification's position. Together with nearby Labin - St. Florus Town GateSt. Florus Gate, Torjon explains why this particular edge of town mattered for defence.
