The principal attraction of 
Trsteno is 
Trsteno Arboretum, the former country estate of the Dubrovnik family Gučetić-Gozze. Its gardens, terraces and viewing axes developed around their summer residence.
Ivan Marinov Gučetić decided to build a country residence at Trsteno in 1484, while an inscription records its completion at the beginning of the 16th century. The original Gothic-Renaissance building was damaged by the great earthquake of 1667 and subsequently rebuilt as a restrained two-storey residence.
The summer residence forms the architectural heart of the arboretum. Formal gardens, pergolas and terraces surround it, and its main axis continues towards a gloriette or viewing pavilion. Wide views from the pavilion extend across the sea towards the Elaphite Islands.
