Trsteno Arboretum - Neptune Fountain

A walk through Trsteno Arboretum in Trsteno leads from the formal gardens into a cooler part of the estate shaped by water. Lush vegetation, stone channels and pools create a distinctly different atmosphere here.

Neptune Fountain was erected in 1736 at the end of the garden's main Baroque axis. Water reaches it through an aqueduct with 14 arches, making a large pool possible in the otherwise dry karst landscape.

The fountain combines an artificial stone grotto with a central statue of Neptune, two nymphs, further mythological figures and dolphins. Its water, lilies and dense greenery create one of the most recognisable scenes in Trsteno Arboretum.
