Buzet - Lapidarium

BuzetBuzet developed in northern Istria between the Mirna valley and the karst landscape below the Ćićarija range. Historic Buzet was an important stronghold and the seat of the Captain of Rašpor, so defensive and administrative heritage meet throughout the core. Buzet is both a historic destination and a base for exploring the hills of Buzeština and the natural landscape beside the Mirna. Stone traces from different periods of the town’s history are now gathered beside the southern wall.

The lapidarium on the southern edge of the Buzet - Old TownOld Town gathers stone inscriptions, coats of arms and architectural fragments from Buzet. They are arranged beside a wall near an old well.

This open-air collection allows the carved stone to be examined without entering a building. Individual pieces document historical rebuilding and civic institutions.

The tombstones, coats of arms and stone wellhead do not form a single monument but a collection from different periods. Together they preserve inscriptions and symbols that might otherwise have disappeared when buildings changed.
