Buzet - Bembo Palace

BuzetBuzet is an Istrian town above the Mirna, away from the coast and embedded in the peninsula’s hilly interior. Its commanding position, defensive edge and densely built lanes explain Buzet’s centuries-long importance in northern Istria. Its special quality is the legible relationship between fortifications, public buildings and homes on a confined hilltop. On the ceremonial southern approach, armorial palaces expressed the status of Venetian officials and town notables.

Bembo Palace stands near the southern entrance to Buzet - Old TownBuzet's Old Town. It was built in 1728 and bears the coat of arms of Rašpor captain Vincenzo Bembo above its portal.

The long street façade combines stone corners, a Baroque portal and rows of wooden shutters. Close views help distinguish the palace from neighbouring houses along the approach.

The palace stands by the ceremonial southern approach; its portal and captain’s arms expressed the patron’s place in Venetian administration. Because it forms part of a street row, identification depends on the whole façade and inscription rather than one window.
