Buzet - Parish House

BuzetBuzet is an Istrian town above the Mirna, away from the coast and embedded in the peninsula’s hilly interior. Its commanding position, defensive edge and densely built lanes explain Buzet’s centuries-long importance in northern Istria. Its special quality is the legible relationship between fortifications, public buildings and homes on a confined hilltop. On the route to the main square, the defensive past merges with later ecclesiastical and residential use of buildings.

The parish palace stands on the route to the Buzet - Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin MaryParish Church of the Assumption of Mary. It developed on the site of a 16th-century fortification and incorporates layers of the 17th-century Flego family palace.

From the street, its stone portal in the long walled façade is the most visible feature. The photographs remain focused on the exterior and immediate surroundings.

Its change from a fortification into a house and the Flego family palace shows how defensive structures acquired residential and ecclesiastical functions. The long façade still follows the line of the former stronghold.
