Buzet - Venetian Storehouse

Buzet is a historic town in northern Croatian Istria, where the Old Town rises above the Mirna valley. The contrast between the stone upper town and the everyday centre in lower Fontana is fundamental to modern Buzet. The town is recognised by its stone silhouette, Venetian heritage and connection with the truffle country along the Mirna. Former public supplies and Venetian administration are particularly visible in the storehouses and the arms of their patrons.

The Venetian storehouse in old Buzet was built in 1514 and renovated in 1796. Inscriptions and coats of arms of the Rašpor captains are set into its façade.

The building held civic supplies, while its stone memorial elements now recall Venetian administration. The gallery links the complete façade with closer views of the inscriptions.

The arms and inscription plaques of the Captains of Rašpor connect the storehouse’s economic function with the administration of Venetian Istria. Its 1796 renovation maintained the public building beside the central town space.
